According to the GPI, the Global Peace Index that measures the peace position of nations and regions, Portugal would be the 3rd safest country in the world in 2019, after Iceland first and New Zealand second. Portugal won 2 positions compared to the previous year of 2018, in which it was ranked in 5th place.

But this classification is even better at European level, where Portugal ranks first.
